Game developer Mason Palmer has worked at 7 different video game publishers during his career. Each one has had multiple rounds of layoffs, and 2 shut down after Palmer voluntarily left the company. And yet, Palmer has yet to be included in any layoffs. After being skipped over for so many years, he's hoping the latest rumors of layoffs include him.
When asked why he wants to be considered for a layoff, Palmer told us, "Obviously nobody wants to be laid off. I don't want it, per se. But it's like a rite of passage. Everyone in this industry has to go through eventually. Just once. I just want to feel included."
After we spoke with Palmer, but before publishing this story, Palmer's employer laid off 10% of staff, 32 jobs. Palmer was not included in that list. He is now aggressively trying to get a new job at Microsoft's Activision.
