The developers at Soft And Co. have developed a new backend services architecture which has improved their development throughput by nearly 300%. They have taken microservices, being developed by multiple teams within the company, and combined them into a single service. Dubbed the Large Microservice Architecture (LMA), this reduces the need for developers to talk to other people when working on new features or debugging issues. "We know it's a big change from conventional thinking, but we're always willing to try new things to increase our productivity," said one developer on the team. "We moved 12 microservices down to a single application hosting only 7 endpoints. 3 of the microservices were owned by other teams, so we took ownership of those endpoints. It's so much easier to make a method call than it is to handle every potential issue from calling a separate service."

When asked for data on the new architecture, the lead developer said, "We're writing a White Paper on LMAs. It'll be available as soon as we have more data to put into charts. I'm partial to pie charts, but the team likes Line Graphs so we'll be sure to include both. If this new pattern becomes popular, we plan to organize a yearly conference pushing the concept." Not everyone is happy with the new architecture. One developer who wished to remain nameless called it, "Stupid."
