In an announcement post this morning, Microsoft announced the availability of a new Windows Copilot application for Microsoft Copilot. This new A.I. assistant will manage the old A.I. assistant, combining their intelligences to accomplish tasks a single one couldn't.
"When you're struggling with a complex task, Microsoft Copilot is the A.I. assistant to get you through it. But what happens when your task is too complicated? That's when you need Windows Copilot for Microsoft Copilot, our latest A.I. assistant to abstract you from the complications A.I. has brought to our daily lives," the post reads.
Microsoft goes on to describe the full list of features included in its latest Copilot:
- Restaurant Reservation Options: Microsoft Copilot can make restaurant reservations for you, but it doesn't always know your preferences, like what time you want to eat. Windows Copilot for Microsoft Copilot adds a UI layer above Microsoft Copilot to let you make choices in real-time. In the future, this can be expanded to other use cases, like getting airplane tickets, bus tickets, train tickets, and making dog grooming appointments (not cats, too complex).
- User Impersonation: Using the camera and microphone on your device, the new Windows Copilot for Microsoft Copilot can impersonate you for physical tasks, like signing in with Windows Hello. You'll no longer need to physically be in front of your device to initiate local authentication.
- Fashion Advice: Would you look good in bangs? No. And Windows Copilot for Microsoft Copilot can tell you that.
- Voice Activation: By saying, "Hey Windows Copilot for Microsoft Copilot," a UI will drop down from the top of the screen letting you dictate commands to your Number 2. Even better, you can still say, "Hey Copilot" or "Hey Microsoft Copilot" to bring up the old, boring version you're used to.
When asked why yet another Copilot was created, a Microsoft spokesperson responded, "It's the best brand we have right now. But I want to stress that it's not an after thought. Windows Copilot for Microsoft Copilot is optimized to be best on Windows 11 to help you optimize your life to the fullest. It will be available on iOS and Android tomorrow, and on Windows by the end of Q3 2026."
