A user wrote on a public forum that the new 'graph overview' feature of their employee time tracking software is "totally useless". The post goes on to say they can't imagine anyone getting real value out of it beyond a dashboard that looks nice on a big screen in the middle of the room.
The problem is, this user is completely wrong. There were many meetings, with multiple teams over months, to decide that that feature is something users want in the software. And that doesn't even include the customer interviews. In fact, it's something users will pay extra for! The SaaS company developing the software, EmpTracks, has big plans for it. The roadmap will expand that feature so much that it will become a new vector for upselling. Customers will be able to upgrade their license to get all of the features, or pay for subsets of functionality that suits their needs. EmpTracks is confident this is their next billion dollar business.
And for the record, it was 73 meetings.
