A new study has found 9 in 10 conversations held by software developers settles into a discussion about A.I. within the first 12 minutes. Any conversation that crosses the 30 minute mark has a 99.9% chance of becoming about A.I. in software. The study was conducted over a period of 12 months and includes over 11,000,000 conversations from 62,000 people. The study was conducted by an independent team of researchers from one of those consulting companies that harvests weird data like this for something profitable. You know what I'm talking about. They wanted to understand how A.I. is affecting how software developers talk. Presumably to sell consulting services?
Darren Mckinney, the lead researcher on the study remarked, "That's probably what the data says. Honestly we had a lot of trouble with Excel. One of the columns kept reverting to DATETIME, so we stopped trying to carefully analyze it. We pushed all the data to Google's Gemini to analyze it. It's really good. Gave us the answer in under a minute with a couple charts, graphs, and a nice summary. Even gave us a catchy title for the report. I can't wait to see what it can do in the future. It'll unlock so many different ways to conduct this research and really speed things up..." He continued to talk about A.I. for a while. But we had better things to do and left.
