Coding agents like Claude, Codex, and Bob are improving their code output by better impersonating the humans whose jobs they will inevitably steal. For a step in the right direction, they will no longer consume ReadMe files found in projects.
Humans are known for ignoring documentation, both reading and writing it. From internal testing, OpenAI says this improves generated code quality by 22% while only raising token usage 46%. An impressive feat considering they originally estimated token usage to more than double when they witnessed how much time human developers waste when they skip the documentation.
While you wait for the update to go out in your agent of choice, you can delete any local ReadMe files you encounter to emulate the same results. It's not like you need them anyway.
